Nurse
****ATTENTION PARENTS****
*Please keep your child home if they have vomited or had fever within the last 24 hours.
*There are students who have immunization records that are still outstanding. Please take care of this ASAP!!! Your child must be current, or on schedule, with their immunizations to remain at school.
*There are medication forms for over the counter medications as well as for prescription medications. If your child needs a prescription medication during the school day, a form must be signed by the doctor and the parent before I can administer the medication. Over-the-counter medications must be brought to school in the original container or bottle along with a medication form signed by the parent. Forms are available at the front office or in my office. If you need to see me please bring your drivers license in and they will direct you to my office.
Fusion page
WELCOME TO PNMS!!! I am the nurse and I am in charge of the health and well being of the students/staff here at PNMS. Just a few topic of discussion.
ILLNESS
Please keep your child home if they have vomited or are running fever. They must be free of these symptoms 24hours before returning to school. If you have concerns please contact me.
MEDICATIONS
It may be necessary for your child to take medications at the school. There are forms for over the counter medication that the parent must turn in with the medication in order for this medication to be administered at school. There is a separate form for prescription medications that must be signed by the physician. Medications must be brought to the school in the original container and are stored in the nurse office. Meds can be administered once the appropriate forms are signed. You can find these forms under the forms section on this page or the are also located at the front desk and in my office. Inhalers and epi-pens that may need to be carried on the student have specific forms as well.
If your child has a life threatening allergy please come discuss this with me. There are forms that need to be filled out by you and signed by a physician. If your child carries an epi-pen on them this is okay, but it is always best to keep pens in the office as well. Kids are kids and forget stuff at home all of the time. It is protocol that we keep two pens as there is always a chance of pen failure or a chance two pens may need to be administered prior to the EMS arrival.
NO MEDS ARE KEPT THRU THE SUMMER. A LETTER WILL GO HOME VIA YOUR CHILD AT THE END OF THE YEAR AND PARENT/GUARDIAN MUST PICK UP MEDS IN MY OFFICE. MEDS STILL HERE AFTER THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL WILL BE DISPOSED OF.
SCREENINGS
- Head checks are done on all students at PNMS. If your child is sent home please treat them as well as your house with an over the counter treatment such as RID, LICE ICE, ETC. These treatments can be found at any pharmacy. If your child has a bad case of lice it may be necessary to treat with a prescription medication that you can get from a doctor.
- Vision/Hearing Screenings are done on all 7th grade students. If your child doesn't pass these screenings a referral will be sent home. If you receive a referral please get your child to an eye or ear specialist ASAP as this plays a vital role in his/her learning.
-Scoliosis screenings are done on all 6th graders. If there are any abnormalities you will be notified.
(If ever you are questioning your child's vision, hearing or spinal curvature please notify me and I will be glad to do a screening regardless of his/her grade)
VACCINATIONS
The state requires that all kids are up to date on immunizations to be in school. 7th grade students are required to have the following shots prior to picking up their schedule:
- TDAP Booster
- Meningococcal
These shots are normally given after the 12th birthday however some doctors give a little sooner. If you child has received these vaccines even in 6th grade please turn them in. It is not advised to wait until just before school starts to get these shots as there are often shortages at this time.
Again thank you for trusting your child to me, it is my privilege to take care of them!! If you have questions please don't hesitate to contact me!
